The Difference Between a Driver and a Chauffeur

Chauffeur is derived from the French word for ”Stoker” referencing times gone by when the process of starting an engine was far more complex than it is now.

Over 130 years ago when motorcars were first introduced they were very unreliable and if you were wealthy enough to afford one you wouldn’t consider not having a chauffeur in order to take care of your vehicle and ensure your journey was as smooth as possible.

As years went past and cars became more commonplace and affordable, for the wealthy the chauffeur service remained. As these cars became more reliable the role of the chauffeur changed from being less mechanical and more service led.

The chauffeur is a true professional, believing in taking care of their clients completely ensuring that every element of their journey is taken care of. Their geographical, historical and social knowledge of the City is second to none.

The chauffeur can offer recommendations for restaurants, accommodation and entertainment. Above all a chauffeur will pre-empt and second-guess passenger requirements, leave nothing to chance and be a true professional at all times.

A Brief History of Rolls Royce Motorcars

Since 1904 Rolls-Royce has created instantly recognisable motor cars that have made the marque an enduring icon all over the world. Today, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited engineers, manufactures and distributes luxury automobiles and automobile parts worldwide.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of BMW AG established in 1998 after BMW was licensed the rights to the Rolls-Royce brand name and logo from Rolls-Royce PLC and acquired the rights to the Spirit of Ecstasy and Rolls-Royce grill shape trademarks from Volkswagen AG.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited operates from purpose built administrative and production facilities opened in 2003 across from the historic Goodwood Circuit in Goodwood, West Sussex, England, United Kingdom. Rolls-Royce Motors Cars Limited is the exclusive manufacturer of Rolls-Royce branded motor cars since 2003. Although the Rolls-Royce brand has been in use since 1906, the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars subsidiary of BMW AG has no direct relationship to Rolls-Royce branded vehicles produced prior to 2003.

The Bentley Motors Limited subsidiary of Volkswagen AG is the direct successor to Rolls-Royce Motors and various other predecessor entities that produced Rolls-Royce and Bentley branded cars between the foundation of each company and 2003, when the BMW-controlled entity started producing cars under the Rolls-Royce brand.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom 4-door sedan was the first product offered for sale in 2003. Since then, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has expanded its product line up to include an extended wheelbase version of the Phantom sedan, a Phantom 2-door coupé and Phantom convertible version and the less expensive Ghost 4-door sedan and Wraith 2-door coupé.
